Privacy notice
How Physics Atlas uses your information. Written for students and their parents or guardians.
What we collect
- Your first name and email address
- Your month and year of birth (not the day)
- Your school year and exam tier (Foundation or Higher)
- If you are under 16: your parent or guardian's email address, so they can approve your account and receive notices
- Your revision activity: answers, marks, mock exam results and study time
- Security records: a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address and a short summary of your browser, used to protect accounts
We do not collect your full date of birth, address, phone number or school. We do not show adverts, and there are no public profiles or messaging between students.
Why we use it
To run your account, show your progress, keep the service secure, and - for students under 16 - get a parent or guardian's approval.
Our team checks every new account before it can be used. To do that, they see the first name, email address and school year you entered.
Who else processes it
- Anthropic - provides the optional AI tutor and AI marking. We send your questions with a pseudonymous ID only - never your name, email or date of birth.
- Stripe - handles optional payments. We never see or store card details.
- Resend - sends our emails (login links, approval requests and notices).
How long we keep it
- AI tutor conversations: 30 days
- Accounts never verified: 7 days
- Accounts not approved by a parent or guardian, or declined: 30 days
- Accounts our team has not approved: deleted after 30 days, or straight away if we turn the account down
- Security logs: at least 90 days
- Deleted accounts: personal details are removed immediately; anonymous statistics are kept
Your rights
You can download a copy of your data and delete your account at any time from your Account page. Parents and guardians of students under 16 are told when an account is deleted. You can also contact us to correct your details or ask questions about your data.
